Hohenschwangau - Village


Hohenschwangau is one of the places in Germany that require a mandatory visit. It's located in the municipality of Schwangau, near the city of Füssen and in the southern tip of Bayern, very close to Austria.

The village is strategically placed between two of the most visited castles in Germany: Hohenschwangau Schloss and Neuschwanstein Schloss; it's boarded by the Alpsee on the West side and surrounded by mountains. It's basically composed by hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Here are a few photos of the village. I'll be posting photos of the castles and the Alpsee later.



The photo above shows the Maibaum of Hohenschwangau. You can read more about this ancient Maibaum tradition here. Usually the Maibaum is made of wood (not the case in Hohenschwangau) and is decorated with emblems that depict the typical crafts and industry of the area.
