What Autumn mornings were made for

Our last morning walk was about a month ago, on a Sunday. It was perfect Fall weather. Chilly but sunny and clear skies. We hadn't gone for a morning walk for a month (because of someone's laziness), but the weather was so good we had to get out of the house.

Now it wouldn't be possible to take these photos. It's almost always very foggy in the morning, and we haven't seen the sun for about 2 weeks. It's making it very difficult to get up in the morning!

Schwäbische Alb - Bad Urach & Uracher Wasserfall

The Uracher Wasserfall is in the middle of the Maisental (or Maisen Valley in English) at the outskirts of Baden Urach.
The spring falls 37 meters and then runs another 50 meters into the valley.

After hiking up, and down, to the ruins of Hohenurach, we made a short stop at a biergarten right in the middle of a meadow and enjoyed a sausage with pretzel and a radler. This meadow is also the place where one can see the beginning of the waterfall.

Schwäbische Alb - Bad Urach & Burgruine Hohenurach

Bad Urach is a town at the foot of the Schwäbische Alb and it's known for its Spa and therapeutic waters.
The Schwäbische Alb has two UNESCO world heritage designations: it's a UNESCO Geopark and part of it is also a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

We first visited Bad Urach, quite by accident, on Easter Sunday.
Since then several colleagues from school have mentioned the waterfalls near the town, as well as the beautiful hiking trails.
We took advantage of a not-so-sunny Sunday to go to Bad Urach and take a look at one of the waterfalls.
The trail to the ruins of Hohenurach was not on our plan but it was well worth the steep climb!

Hohenurach was built as a castle in the 11th century; it was turned into a fortress in the 16th century and torn down in the 18th century. (want more information?)
